Dr. Ghafoori is Board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. She graduated cum laude undergraduate from the University of Southern California (Los Angeles) and in the top quarter from the University of California San Francisco School of Medicine (San Francisco). She completed her internship and a full General Surgery residency at Emory University School of Medicine (Atlanta), followed by a full Plastic Surgery residency at the University of California San Francisco School of Medicine.
Dr. Ghafoori was recruited to the Rio Grande Valley, straight out of residency in 1998.
She currently focuses primarily on cosmetic surgery. In addition to operating in her In-Office, private surgical facility, Dr. Ghafoori currently holds privileges at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen.
Dr. Ghafoori has served on numerous hospital committees in the past, and has held the following hospital appointments: Board of Trustees, Golden Palms Retirement and Health Center (2003-2006); Medical Director, Department of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, Valley Baptist Medical Center (1999-2007), Medical Director Utilization/Management & Documentation, Valley Baptist Medical Center (2004-2007); Chief of Surgery, Valley Baptist Medical Center (2002-2005); Board of Directors, Valley Healthcare Network (1999-2007); Vice President of the Medical Board, Valley Baptist Medical Center (2007).
Dr. Ghafoori served as a Clinical Professor at the Regional Academic Health Center-UTHSCSA (2001-2006) and as a public member of the Texas State Bar Grievance Committee - District 12B (2004-2007). She currently serves as a Physician Reviewer for the Texas Medical Board (since 2004) and as a Facility Surveyor for the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities (since 2014).
During her residency training, Dr. Ghafoori co-published three research papers in peer-reviewed medical journals and was a contributor on several others.
