Dr. Ghafoori offers both saline and silicone implants, including "gummy bear," in a wide variety of sizes and profiles, including low, moderate, moderate plus, high, and ultra high.  Dr. Ghafoori is proud to be able to offer Sientra (now Tiger Aestherics, LLC) silicone gel implants -- available ONLY to Board-certified plastic surgeons!!!, and known for their highly cohesive gel, higher fill ratio, and superior warranty.

Dr. Ghafoori prefers the smooth shell round implants -- (in fact, 99.9% of her breast implant cases through the years have been smooth -- click the BIA-ALCL button for additional information.

8/14/23 UPDATE FROM DR. GHAFOORI RE: LONG TERM FOLLOW-UP RECOMMENDATIONS:

For patients with either saline or silicone gel (including "Gummy Bear") implants: Regular monthly self-breast exams and annual check-ups by your gynecologist or primary doctor are recommended.  Annual mammograms, or at a frequency interval recommended by your doctor, should also be done, starting at age 40 -- Remember, a special technique in which the breast is pulled forward and the implant is pushed backwards, as well as an additional, 3rd view, should be performed to optimize mammogram quality and accuracy.

For those with silicone gel (including "Gummy Bear") implants: Additional surveillance is required.  The 2020 updated, current FDA recommendations are an MRI scan or HD (high definition) Ultrasound, beginning at the 5th (or 6th) year, and then every 2 (to 3) years thereafter, providing no other issues have been noted.

Additionally, for patients with either saline or silicone gel (including "Gummy Bear") implants, any new changes, concerns, or symptoms, particularly breast enlargement and/or lumps,  should be evaluated to rule out a rare implant-associated cancer, a type of lymphoma, termed BIA-ALCL, as well as other possible cancers.  Initial evaluation usually entails an MRI with contrast, or a biopsy of any nodule.  A special marker (CD30) is checked on any obtained fluid or tissue.  While information may change, currently BIA-ALCL is linked to textured shells of the implant -- Of note, I have used a smooth-shelled implant in the overwhelming majority of my surgeries.
